How many different tyre manufacturers were used for WW2 American made vehicles ?

Hello,

That is a very good question Mark !
The info we have been used to is that Firestone and Goodyear were supplied from the factory on jeeps.
There were also early production Ford tires, with limited production.

I have a BF Goodrich Silver Town tire that I found in a sand dune on Utah Beach, and brought back, marked "Military" with the S-3 number stamped on it as well.
I also have 2 US Rubber, "Military" marked "civilian style" tires with S-3 stamped on them as well.
Madcolors has on his jeep a Dunlop tire marked Military, and S-3 and likely a WW2 produced tire, and I think possibly supplied with the BRT Jeep contract as part of the British spec. requirement, why not, it was a British company, making jeep tires here in USA, and
would have been easy to supply the factory for the order.

I am sure there are more tire makes from WW2, that would have replaced tires at depots around the world for jeeps getting repaired or overhauled.

Hello,

I also have some post war Cooper, "Military " marked jeep tires for the MB, that are dated 1966, But no S-3.
The Company was called Master during the war, and did make tires for the war effort among other things, but no idea if they made Cooper branded jeep tires, but the Cooper brand label first was used in 1941.

Some great answers guys many thanks. Interesting to see some British manufacturers amongst them, Dunlop and Goodyear, a real shame they closed these British factories down and shipped them abroad. :x
