hello boys.
After 7 months of complete restoration I got my gpw running and looking beautiful. Last Wednesday I took it for ride after few miles my clutch pedal got disconnected but I manage to put it in first gear and drive. I drove in 1st for about 2 block or so and pulled over, fixed the problem and kept going.
BUT!!! at the first light it started to sputter choke and etc. when I was giving her to much gas. I got home but had to keep it in 2nd gear and keep it at half the throttle. I started to play with the distributor and coil after that I can't get the engine started at all. I check the following
coil works the point have a spark all spark plugs have a spark it looked like the carb is no good, so I replaced it, now I can see the gas flowing in to the manifold, still nothing cant get it started. I set the flywheel to TC and my #1 was about at 5 o'clock going counter clockwise 3 4 2 timing seems to where it should be.
Yesterday I push started it and she fired up but it sound horrible. maybe the timing is off???
I don't know what else to do. I slowly getting tired of it.
I forgot to mention that the motor was just completely rebuild by a professional shop. it sounded great before.
please help!!!!!!!!!

If I were you my first point of contact would be to speak to the company who built your engine. Hope you get it fixed soon.

Re: how to get the engine to run again
You took the words right out of my mouth, Scoutpilot.
I run into this situation all the time and especially early spring after a piece of equipment has set over the winter months.
Ethanol. It absorbs moisture and settles to the bottom of the fuel tank on anything with a vented fuel tank after two or three months.
On small engines, they may or may not start at all and if they do, only run long enough for the water/ethanol mix to get to the carb, then the show is over.
On a military jeep, it is farther from the tank to the carb. The engine is already running but when the mix hits the carb, performance drops noticeably and if it dies, it won't restart.
I would put the original carb back on unless you are sure the one on now is OK. The original was working until this all started.
If this is what is happening, you will need to drain the "mix" from the bottom of the tank and purge the fuel system. This includes the carb.
All you need to do to the fuel tank, if it is full, is get the funky blue green ethanol/water mix off the bottom, where it settled. The gas above is now ethanol free and will burn just fine. No need to dump it all.

Re: how to get the engine to run again
I have found 90 days is the magic number for a piece of equipment kept inside. Give or take a few days depending on how humid conditions are at your AO.
Stabil seems to help but after 90 days, it's a toss up.
I have a mowing tractor that has set out in some pretty heavy rain we had a while back. The fuel in it separated in about 30 days.
