D Day plus 75 years

Post by ghiltgen » Thu Jun 15, 2017 8:19 pm

The last few Supply Line/ Army motors journals have had articles about going to Normandy for DDay 75 Anniversary in June 2019. I am strongly considering going but I would like to make contact with anyone who has taken their Jeep or other HMV (historic military vehicle) with them to attend a dday anniversary to determine the feasibility and cost of actually taking a vehicle. My impression is that one has to join the British Military Vehicle Trust so that one can ferry a vehicle across the channel with their group.
Anyway, please post any insight or PM me if you have done this or looked into it, I would like to hear about your experiences.

Thank you in advance.

Greg, i have never done this run myself, but what i can tell you is you DONT have to be a member of the M.V.T. to attend. Hope this helps.

I have sent a inquiry to a French contact who is currently visiting Normandy from the US for the 73rd Anniversary. He is heavily involved with living history and does Normandy tours. I have asked if he can be of assistance to you and I am waiting for a response back. I believe that there were MVPA members who participated with local European contacts during the 70th Anniversary, but I don't think that any of them took their vehicles from the US.

I have done it twice. In 94 and 2004. We shipped vehicle to the UK and back from the Netherlands. I am planning on doing it again in 19 for the last time. You can contact me for info. if you like. Brent Mullins 979-690-0203

You can contact Jean Pierre Paviot, he told me he can provide all the information that you require. His Facebook page name is "JP Pav." You can also talk to him on Messenger. Here is his Messenger link: https://www.facebook.com/messages/t/jeanpierre.paviot
Just a word of caution. When I was there for the 70th Anniversary and there were hundreds of Jeeps running around Normandy, I commented to one of my European teammates that I was shocked how many jeeps were left unattended. His response was that the previous year there were 12 jeeps stolen.

Thanks to you all! Ill keep checking to see if there are updates (french contact). I hadn't given the prospect of some trying to steal jeeps a thought, but one has to be prepared!

100% I will be bringing my MB from Ireland, waiting for the ferry to be bookable. Where are G503 folks planning to stay. St. Mere Eglise or other. The Stop Bar will be busy!

Where in Ireland do you live? I'm always on the look out for HMV's and ask around when I'm back "home". I generally spend most of my time in Kerry though...maybe too few MB's and GPW's in The Kingdom? There are a lot of good jeepin' roads in Kerry!

I am certain that I will bring a vehicle over from the States for the 75th. It's probably a good time to start making round trip reservations. Does anyone know if the MVPA will be offering assistance?

Mike
I tried to send you a PM regarding some details that I found out about taking a jeep to Normandy. Did you see it or should I resend it.
