Re: WWw bomb explodes
That was about 10 miles away from where i live, they closed roads and motorways, and evacuated residents within a 500m radius of the bomb. To say it was chaos is an understatement.

Re: WW2 bomb explodes
Too bad the residents couldn't have been evacuated 75 years ago when bombs were raining from the sky.
Is it true real Jeeps have flat fenders?
Alone cannot you it resist!

Re: WW2 bomb explodes
These things are any where in the world there has been any conflict. And obviously, they don't have to have been there from any recent time.
Bombs. Booby traps. Land mines.
There has been an attempt ( sometimes ) to remove them but they have not found them all.
People are still getting mutilated and killed all the time.
Fortunately this one was found and destroyed.

Re: WW2 bomb explodes
Before they detonated it (they said it was in a too fragile state to move), they put 230 tons of sand around it, and it still caused a bit of damage.

Re: WW2 bomb explodes
We use to find all kind of unexploded ordinance lying around the jungle, all the time.
Rule number one. " DON'T MESS WITH IT !!! ".
We had a guy that was a total idiot !!
Found a 1000 pound bomb once. Laying on it's side like a beached whale.
This guy ran over and jumped up on top of it, yelling " Somebody take my picture ! " He is lucky we didn't, with an M-16 !
Same guy used to kick mortar tail fins he would find sticking out of the ground. That is how we found them after they went off. Question was, was it just the tail fin or the whole round ???
He did it in front of me one day and I informed him, " Don't ever do that again ! ".
A little later, he found another one. Walked up to it and started to kick it.
I was carrying an M-60 machine gun at the time. 26 lb. wonder.
After I put the butt stock in the back of his head, he woke up and got up, we had the discussion about not kicking anything, one more time.
Sometimes, you just have to get some ones attention before you start talking !
No body else questioned my move.
Never had any more problems with him.
