Willys MB distributor

Post by hogan200 » Fri May 05, 2017 9:26 am

Hi Guys,
It's my first time posting here, I hope I'm in the right section. I own a Willys mb and have been restoring it for the last 5 years. I purchased an Autolite 4705 11x used distributor and would like to know if I can use it on my Willys engine as i've heard people mentioning 1x and 5x and other types of distributors but never a 11x.

Many Thanks

Harry

It is the correct distributor for an MB. 11X just shows that it was made in Nov. 1943. It would have been installed in a Nov. or Dec. 1943 MB from the factory.
Look in Jeep Draw under Distributors as there is more Info and pictures.

There are a few threads about the issue of worn out bushings in the distributor. Well worth reading, basically, with the body in one hand if you can wiggle the shaft sideways any at all it would be advisable to re-bush that dist. Willys Distributors does that and does a nice finish on the body. The correct points that had an oiler/wiper pad on them and a condenser that isn't too BIG for the distributor. The spring on the end of the shaft helps to prevent wobble and premature bushing wear.

Good Luck and welcome aboard!
