NEW SUMMER TOP HELP!!!

Post by ctlaw74 » Mon Mar 20, 2017 6:57 pm

Dear Crew,

Need some advice and input. Just bought my first new summer top from Dave at OD Cloth for my 42 GPW. It arrived today and the fit seems perfect. The problem is it appears to have thousands of little holes in the canvas. I can see so much light through the top when under it I can't believe it. There's no way it would stop rain. Water would pour right in. Is this something that goes away with shrinkage? Why on earth would the weave of the canvas be so loose you can see through it. Some of the holes are pretty big. Please advise as I don't know if this is standard with a new top. I have never seen anthing other than an old top before.

Thanks in advance.
(PS Sorry for the big pics I can't figure out how to make them any smaller)

Edited....apparently this is normal. My canvas does not exhibit as many holes but apparently I just got lucky. As suggested by others, I would let your canvas age a little, thus allowing the canvas weave to tighten/shrink and allow the holes to close themselves. The results will probably be to your satisfaction.

Thanks Michael, I appreciate your input and advise. Trying to get to the bottom of this asap by gathering input from G503 folks!

This is not normal, I just installed a new summer top [beachwood] on my GPW three week,s ago, not one pin hole even on a bright sunny day, some one took a short cut on that top, I would send it back and look somewhere else, a cheap made top.
