A tribute to a Proud WW ll Veteran

Post by vwsf » Fri Jun 05, 2015 12:18 pm

Another Wonderful WW ll Veteran Passes
On Tuesday June 2, I lost my Dad ( John H Furrer, aged 93 ) after a very long Illness.
Some of you might remember my Dad from Tower park or the Petaluma Veterans Parade. He loved just sitting watching the MVs drive by and talking to visitors who just stopped by to shake his hand and share stories

Dad was a Navy radio Technician II From 1942-45
Here is a little of Dads record:
1941 Dad was playing tennis in San Francisco with my future Mom at Time of Pearl Harbor Attack
1942 ...Enlisted 1942. Trug BASE TREASURE ISLAND SF
1943...Oklahoma Schooling
1943 ...Lido beach. Long Island
1943...Dyke 29..ARZEW Algeria
1944 ..LAnded on the beach at Anzio, Went to Salerno, Rome
1944 ..Palmero Sicily
1944 ..Naples Italy
1944..Bizerte Algeria
1944.. Oran Algeria
1945 ..USS Brisco In SF
1945 ..Shipped to Guadalcanal MArshall Islands, Philippines, New Guinea
1945...Was Onboard the USS Briscoe in Tokyo Bay for the Surrender
1945 ..10/13/45 Discharged at Treasure ISland SF bay

Im so Proud of you Dad, I love you so much.
Thank You for being my hero.
Save a fishing spot for me in heaven.

All my Love
Your Son

So sorry for your loss. This is a good reminder of what fuels this hobby. It's so we can honor these guys and to ensure that future generations will remember. Thanks for posting.

Tom....my condolences on the loss of your father. I know you have been very involved in caretaking for him for a long time. Your Dad has quite a career and I'm sure that he was equally proud of his son who has done so much to teach the next generations of American children.

God Bless....

Tom,
I too am very sorry for your loss. I am the fortunate owner of his wonderful jeep. It's great to finally see pictures of the man who put this jeep together.

It breaks your heart to lose your dad, How great it was, he past his love and life's values down to you.
May he rest in peace.
