Hi all,
Here are some parts I've found these last few months:

NOS boxed Ford Fan, SC marked: so nice I won't be putting it on the jeep; I'm now looking for a takeoff one!

NOS Ford Black out lamp bulb

GPW springs: I got 5, 3 rear and 2 front, I'm looking for a front main leaf, a rear main leaf, and a front 5th leaf, as these are broken.
All bolts and C clamps are good and F marked, almost no wear on the leaves!

U bolts: I finally have a full set + spares!

Shock absorber mounting plates: had a F marked one with the suspension parts I bought, and then found out that I had 2 others from my GPW, but dirty Henry stamped the F in a different location!

Torque reaction spring shackles: I have one GPW marked and the other with "M4" only: do you know if this is a GPW thing?
The ones on my GPW were both "M5" only.

Stewart Warner gauges: I now have 3 of the 5!

Also found a mutilated grill, but pretty straight and F marked: still looking for someone that has a dead grill to transplant the 2 missing bars!

Found these two lovely fenders, need a little work but are straight.
They are both early Fords; F marked on top, left is without hole for the BO wiring, and has welded holes that match a Tombstone guard.
I would be very happy to trade these two, or at least the left one, for a late GPW in nice conditions.

Now engine parts:
Two nice Carters, I went through Chuck's excellent ID post, they both look wartime from top to bottom.
I have the missing linkages, some spare screws and brass plugs.

Correct "B" GPW intake manifold, has a repaired (brazed) ear that seems to hold on well, and has a plus hole drilled and taped oversize, and sadly broked.
My welder will try to insert a threaded sleeve or helicoil will correct inner 1/4" thread, and then rebrase to refill the missing part.

Two GPW water pumps, one has rewelded housing, the other has a broken turbine, I think they will make a perfect one once mixed.

Honestly I don't have a particular crush on Ford, I just want to build it correctly!
I have been lucky to get a half-decent core (frame+axles+body matching) but it was completely stripped, starting from there that's not a lot harder to find the correct factory parts instead of repro/WO/WOF. It might be a bit harder or a bit more expensive, but patience is a kind friend and I don't think I've invested much more than 1000 euro since I got the Jeep!
If it had been a Willys I would have made it full Willys, or full WOF if M201! I think I would even prefer a perfectly original M201 to a Fordlys GPMBW!

A nice timing cover, still a lot of Ford engine gray, well marked: sure worth the 5 euro I paid for it!

Engine mounting plate, correct late model, also a lot of the original paint, a bit messed up where the generator mounts, but nothing that can't be fixed. Also well worth the 20 euro!

In case you might need any part, be advised that in Turin there is a parts shop uniquely devoted to the restoration of the Fiat 500, where even the smallest rubber spare parts can be found. And yes, the tool guy in me compelled me to assemble not one but two original toolkits for the car! :wink:

Hi Luca,
I have 3 toolkits, sadly missing some items.
I get most of my parts from Germany, I think anyway most of the repro parts are made in Poland now.
I was very happy to see that almost every single little washer is reproduced, but quality can be sometimes pretty rough.
That's what made me look for all the original parts I could get for my GPW.

To end the disgression, if you happen to need 500 parts, I have 2 or 3 of them in bits that I won't need for mine, so I can let them go for low prices.

Finally....I have an engine!

It is GPW #95995, from what I've read it would have been installed on a January, 1943 GPW.

It has the distinctive dark/forest green paint, typical of french army rebuilt engines.
It is now completely disassembled, and has GPW block, bearing caps and bolts, valve cover, mounting plate, and head.
Rods are WO, camshaft and sprocket are also probably Willys made (dated 6-44).

Other things (oil pan, crankshaft, timing cover) are either Willys or very early WOF, or even of early postwar "mystery manufacture", as they are not clearly marked.

It has clearly been rebuilt at least one time, as says the 1945 rebuild plate.

Bore is 0.020 with the 4 cylinders sleeved, main bearings are 0.020, rod bearings 0.030.
it looks like it didn't run that much since the last rebuild, as all the machining on crank and bore is still very nice.

The only issue is a crack between cylinders 3 and 4, but I understand this one should be quite harmless.

Too bad we don't live closer together Fabrizio...I have a GPW replacement with a July 12, 1945 casting (no numbers on the pad behind the oil filter) I would swap you for in a heartbeat! That one would look a little more like a 12/44 motor would than the one you just found!

Yes, I would also do the swap, as I have no problem letting the early stuff go with the early Jeeps!
I've been looking for a decent and affordable engine for almost 3 years, that's really hard to find in Europe.
However if someone close to France, or with super shipping tricks wants to swap this one for a good late 44 engine....go ahead!

I read 3 N 1, that would have no sense, so I guess it's 3 M 1, december 3 1942, that would make sense since GPW 95995 would have been delivered around January 1943.

The studs slowly but safely come out, when one looks stubborn I just let it soak WD40 and try a bit later.
