Aside from the engine, here are some parts I got these last weeks and months.

A nice VRY4203B, dated 10Y (nov. 44)

Correct and very nice Oakes air cleaner, with embossed instructions

Late KS speedo, not locked up, and nice face.

Which means...I now have a full, original, and correct late GPW gauge set!
Of course they all need work, but where's the fun otherwise?

I am assembling a GPW t case from a pile of parts.
The casing is, I think, shot?

Yes I have only looked for a rough estimation, but I don't know if an engine alone would be sufficient to narrow a dod, as Tom W. seems to rely more on frame stamps. Anyhow, I think the casting code says december 3, 1942, so let's say that it'sa very late 42 to early 43 engine.

Another find I'm very, very happy with:
I paid around 45 euro for this, inc postage:
It did look like a piece of crap at first sight!

But...it turned out to be a 100% correct 539s, very probably never overhauled, with original ... Well everything!
The only missing thing is the tiny spring and the keeper for the (correct) throttle rod.
It also looks like it has only very little wear, I feel almost no play ah the throttle shaft.

I did bead blast and phosphate the (407) base, it came out very nice.
It did have nice remains of the original black/grey finish inside.

I used gun blueing fluid (selenium dioxyde) and then oil dipped it as required to settle the finish, that's why you see shiny areas, when dry it's dead flat, charcoal black to whitish gray depending in how dry it is.

Also cleaned the other parts, I'm now waiting for a quality gasket set, and a plating kit for the arms, rods and screws.

Yes, that's 7 months before my dod but...how many of these do you find...it will be more than fine for the moment!

I haven;t seen Carter 539 tags dated for every month of WWII. Maybe that means they made "runs" of the many different carbs they produced and if that is true then not every month need have been in production of the 539....

I'm not suggesting that sevon months is a decent lag time for a "correct" late '44 GPW at all. I just only have pics of a few different dated 539 tags myself. Who knows?

My old air compressor was a bit at the end of its life.
So I replaced it by a twin set, two 3HP 2 cylinders with connected tanks, that gives me a free air delivery of 544 l/mn (19,22 cfm) wich really changes everything!

I had built a wooden blasting cabinet some years ago, it's not perfect but it does the job!
I think that when you're restauring a car, or a bike, that soon becomes your main and most important tool!

That's the result on an ugly greasy rusty part, no prior cleaning:

I also had a custom filler/ sealant, 2 component epoxy based, it's bullet-proof!
Before the filler, the parts are wash-etched.
This will be the process for every part of the car, except black parts and Ford grey parts, that will mostly be blasted-etched and painted without primer, again with custom mixed 2 part epoxy.
OD finish will be 1 component Mat1 which is fragile but perfectly matching the original finish.
Etching and epoxy sealant will be the real rust protection, OD being just "decoration"

This one is marked with a script "Ford", while the take-off one that I'll put on my engine has a script "F".
Is this related to something known?

It appears to be working but the "lock" in each lever position is very very light, do you guys know if there is a way to disassemble it, in order to fix the weak spring or whatever needs a bit of TLC inside?

i just wanted to take the time to say thank you for showing me your compressor set up.

i have a blaster but as i have my home provided by my employer, cant get three phase power to run a bigger pump.

I had never even considered running two compressors so well done and thank you for solving a problem i have been stewing over for the last 6 months.
