Another productive day. Got the valves adjusted and head on. Front cover cleaned and installed and a fresh coat of paint over the whole engine. Oil pan still soaking to get all the years of crude off of it. Should be ready to put on next weekend. Will start getting all the little do-dads read too. Need to clean up/rebuild a distributor and it will be ready to put in. Getting closer each weekend.

Haven't been up to much lately. Weather has been a bit cold for me to work out in the garage this last month or so. Still waiting on some back ordered parts too for the motor. Did have a terrible weekend a few weeks ago while trying to button up the motor.

Started with installing the thermostat housing only to find that one of the three tapped holes in the block has been drilled out and tapped a bigger size, was cleaning the oil pan only to find a dime size hole in one of the corners of the pan...... :x :x :x . Then to finish it off, put the new pulley on the crank and was having difficulties getting it to go on, only to get it passed the threads and managed to ding up the end of the threads, not allowing me to thread on the nut. No problem, attempt to pull the pulley off, no dice. It wouldn't move! Ended up destroying the pulley to get it off the crank. I was so pissed.... :x  :x

I guess the only good thing that weekend was all my oil pan bolts were EC marked. :) So it sat until last week. Got my hands on another oil pan and another new pulley. Was able to clean up the threads and the other pulley slide on like a glove. Unbelievable!

Didn't get any pictures of my 'bad' weekend but did manage to get one after putting the new (used) oil pan on. Still waiting on the oil pump though. If the weather would break this coming weekend, I will try and get the engine hooked up to the trans/transfer case and slide it onto the frame. That would be exciting but not getting my hopes up!
Image

During the down time due to the weather, I did play with making a windshield cover. Picked up a new sewing machine for my side business so I had to try it out. The windshield cover is made out of some excess material I had. Just used it to make the design. Will end up making one out of correct material when I'm ready. I think it turned out fairly well.
I test fitted it on a customer's jeep a buddy of mine is working on.

Was raining outside today but the temps were in the high 50s so it made it nice to go out and clean up the garage a bit. Got a little side tracked and worked on a few items for the jeep.

I finally fixed my problem with the jerry can holder by slightly adjusting the offending bolt hole and was able to get a nut slipped on it without adjusting and of the other holes. Would never know it.

Also, pulled the choke cable back out and decided to take some paint stripper to it to see if the layers of paint would come off. With a little elbow grease, they are slowly disappearing. I'll do the same with the throttle one too.

Well updated will be sporadic for awhile as the wife has started school again, along with still working full time so since she has no time, the everyday life stuff has falling on me to take care of. Two years, just two more years (I keep telling myself.... :D :D ). But did get the rest of my sheet metal items sand blasted during the week so spent last night and today fixing and priming them. All the major body items are done! Just need a coat of paint!

Didn't realize how many holes were in the frame. Had to be at least a couple dozen or more!
Image

After I was done welding, it looked like my frame had the chicken pox! :o
Image

Fixed the two cracks in the hood hinge.

Today I was seeing red:

Just glad the weather was decent. Allowed us to get out of the cramped shop and get some work done. I am sure ready for spring here in the Pacific Northwest!

Thanks. Buddy of mine and I were talking about those cracks the other day. Seems like every original hood we have came across is cracked in the same spot. Quite interesting.

Crummy weather outside today but got the motor and transmission/transfer case all bolted together. So exciting to see these all come together. If the weather will break, I will get the jeep hauled over so we can slide this in. Man, my little jeep is coming together!

What a great day today! Finally after I don't recall how many years, the motor, transmission and transfer case are back on the frame!

I didn't expect to get this far this year. I figured it would be late summer before I would get the chance to get the motor in. Sadly it is not ready to run yet. Still waiting on a back ordered oil pump. Need to rebuild the starter, generator, carb and distributor. But getting closer! I have plenty of other stuff to work on while I'm waiting on geting each item rebuilt.

And with this been my jeep's birthday month, I think this was a great way to celebrate, by installing all this. Drive lines were also attached prior to putting the body back on.
:D I'm so happy!! :D

Just a quick update. Since the motor went back in, the body is back on and I test fitted the front end to see how it all will fit. Not too bad. The right fender is a bit stubborn but managed to get it on. The body is basically all bolted down. Even working on getting the 'correct' washers and such. Just the little details... :D

Also worked on rebuilding the front marker lights. That was fun and fairly easy to do.

Just keep moving forward, inch by inch.

Making some great progress Nick! It looks like the front end fit together well. I had a few problems when trying to fit my fenders as well. Just takes a little time and elbow grease. :)
