MB425051 ***Updates***

Post by hopps1945 » Sat Apr 27, 2013 6:26 pm

Hey guys (and gals :) ) haven't posted on here in forever. Course I haven't worked on my jeep in forever too! I updated my picture account with photos of all the work I have done within the last couple of years.

Enjoy!

Good job! Great welding work....more than I would feel comfortable tackling. I think you would get more hits if you embedded your photos on your thread.

Thanks Rodney. As of 2011 I had no experience in welding or doing any of this. With the help of a buddy of mine, we just started putting the jigsaw puzzle back together. I learned a lot while putting the body together. I had the body parts for about 5 years before I finally just decided to do it. It has been a fun learning process.

To make it a bit easier, here are a few of the pictures to save you from having to look through all of them on the hosting site.

Image
Here is when I bought it, many, many years ago. A big thanks to Uncle Sam for my bonus. It bought me my jeep! :)

Image

Image
Building new driver side inner fender.

Image
Test fitting new inner fender.

Image
Me doing some spot welding.

Image
Rear half of tub together.

Image
front floor temporarily fitted in with screws.

Image
Front floor in and some of the small holes in the firewall have been welded.

Image
Finish welding the floors together.

Image
Quick test fit of fenders, hood and grill.

Image
And just completed today, new rear cross member and test fitting of the new bumperette.

There are a ton more photos at the link above if you what to see more of what I have done so far.

Next big hurdle in the motor. The block and head are ready for the rebuild.

Again, great work Nick. Keep us posted on your progress with more photos directly on the thread.

Do you do re-enacting?

Looking good - thanks for posting. This is motivation for me to break out the Mig welder and start tearing into my tub...

Glad to hear I could help out in some way. :) It took a few years for me to finally just do it. After the fact, it wasn't too bad. Would I do it again anytime soon? Probably not. lol

Haven't done to much the last few days as the weather has been crappy and helped finish putting a canvas top on a 3/4 ton command car. But here are a few pictures of the things I did.

Image

One of the body mounting tabs was missing on the passenger side.

Image

And just like that, new tab on and primed.

Image

Couple more items welded in place.

Image

Finshed up the rear end with welding on the pintle plate. Boy that is an ugly shock mount... lol

Good two days, got my motor back from the shop and get the frame painted today!

Image

Image

Not the original motor but close enough. MB507708. The motor that was in the jeep was a CJ2a motor.

Hopefully will be painting the body soon!

Your present engine is not the one originally fitted because you know that and honestly state so. But out of that there is no way to prove with 100% safety it is not the original engine. I think you can be very satisfied with it.

Thanks guys! :D Yup, I'm glad to have myself a MB motor instead of the CJ motor.

Sadly, I don't have the plate anymore.... It has been many, many years ago when I took it off and it must have been misplaced sometime over the years and many moves that have been made.
