I've got a total of about 1 hour of driving time with it so far. The braking is better than I thought it would be, which honestly isn't saying much! I think it will be tolerable though. I'm thinking of pulling it to a Findlay, Ohio meeting next month - about 100 miles each way. I'm going to load it with everything I plan to carry on the Alcan trip and see how it works.

Ok, a poll in the odd chance anyone sees this:

I am now the proud possessor of a military dataplate for the teardrop camper. Where should I put the dataplate?

I don't want to mount it on the front (the side facing the towing vehicle) - it would get beat up from flying bugs, rocks, and blown oil droplets from the tow vehicle (not that MY tow vehicle has leaks! :D ).

I'm thinking of mounting it on the driver (left) side, up near the trailer socket. I modified the trailer socket so I could connect 110v power at campgrounds.

Opinions?

Mount it down low on the front of one side or the other. But your local DMV may have different ideas where it has to be mounted, if it is going to be the actual vin plate used....and I bet they want it on the front or on the tongue...

Maybe on the Chassis.....might placate the DMV if nearer to the front, but still away from rocks and stuff.

Thanks - I didn't think about the DMV's ideas.

Appreciate the heads up.

In the UK we don't have to register or get MOT certificates of roadworthiness for trailers - is that different elsewhere?

REG,
Most States in the USA require a Certificate of Title to show ownership of a trailer. The identification numbers are usually placed on or near the drawbars of a trailer.
Some States also require license plates to be affixed. Regular safety inspections are usually reserved for high tonnage trailers, and not required for small cargo and camping trailers.
Laws and regulations vary by State.

Alan,
A superb job on the construction of your trailer!

Thanks Roy! Very kind words.

I towed it in a parade this morning, and somebody asked me if those trailers were issued to generals during the war.

It's a 65. I've owned that car for 28 years. It's my first wife. Alas though - it may turn into college money.
