I installed a Pollock battery disconnect switch in my M151-A2 because I had a short not too long ago and it caught my attention. I installed it as suggested by the information that came with the switch and that was to put it inline with the battery ground. I installed one lead from the body of the jeep to one terminal and the other lead from the ground side of the battery to the switch. This lead would normally have gone directly to the body for grounding. I don't know if this is a problem but when I start the jeep all is normal. If I shut off the disconnect switch the jeep increase slightly in RPM and continues to run. Is this normal? If I shut off the engine at the ignition switch and shut off the disconnect there is nothing to the starter which I assume should be normal. I would assume that interrupting the ground circuit would shut off all electrical systems including the ignition system since it is not a magneto system. Should the engine keep running with the battery disconnect switch off.
The other reason I put in a battery disconnect switch is to ward off would be thieves. It is getting worse out here in cow country.

Thanks Ken. I read all the posts and I guess I didn't do anything wrong. I only let the engine run a few seconds so there should be no damage. I will make sure I have the key in my pocket so the wife doesn't shut the engine off at the isolator. This will work great at a car show so no one tries to start the MUTT.

Just so you know, It is not the amount of time it is running with the switch off. It is the instant the switch is turned off that the damage is done. That is when the voltage spike occurs. There can also be damage done running with it off but the damage can be done instantly so be careful.

I have a keyed disconnect switch hooked up to my battery ground.I only use it when leaving the vehicle,after shutting ignition switch off 1st.
