Is this a m151 or a early Kaiser
I have a chance at this for 1K. It has a rotten outer passenger frame rail and floor from battery acid, otherwise it is pretty much there, major parts wise. Pretty new at these so any help would be appreciated.
Is this thing a Kaiser or a m151 mutt. Was looking for a decent restoration canidit for Vietnam reenacting. Matt

More likely a Ford.
The sparkplug wires are likely just shoved over the military wire threads on a standard waterprrof distributor and need replaceing (along with mmilitary spark plugs) if you want waterproofing restored. I do not think this relates to the other engine that has a standard distributor.
I'd buy it if you could weld up the frame member. Remember the body is unitized and everything holds onto the two (Inner) frame rails on this one, so if it cannot be properly welded then your jeep is toast and no one makes replacements for those yet. Every panel hangs on those two rails with hundreds of spot welds, not for the faint hearted. CMD is selling the battery floor and other panels.
For 1K it's a lot of vehicle if it does run. 1st dump the rigging, then the roll bar (although you may like one, it's not good for stability of the vehicle...it's designed for offroad use and WILL ROLL if you take a sharp left or right turn above 15MPH...COUNT ON IT! Adding the later ROPS would be a waste of a vehicle, I would think to trade it to a collector that had a ROPs installed and wanted original (You metioned Vietnam displays, and your right on with this one, no ROPS either...)
Just slow down, replace the shocks and any worn suspension bushings and drive it reasonably and you'll be fine.
Earliest MUTTS had a slot above the spare fuel can to hold it on where the strap went through the body, then they went to a footman loop in the second variant (maybe third there)
Ford started MUTT production, second contract went to Kiaser, then Kiaser became AMC Corp, and when the A2 redesign happended it was Ford called upon for the 1st run of A2's, then back to AMC contracts (the short list here, Ken could provide further more specific details.)

Yea, I bought that engine in that other thread, I will let you know what the distributor is when it gets here. It is not a military with wires jammed in it like this one. Did you notice on this engine there is no PCV valve and also no crankcase venting anywhere that I can see. Must be a good leaker!

Carefully cleaning the EPA valve cover sticker might reveal what year it is, I'd think that's a later year engine due to the orange/red sticker, but I'm not sure what it might say on it.
And hows that firewall mounted coil wire enter the Waterproof housing...it has to go up and contact the cap inside somehow, which might make an interesting photo there.

Wonder if that motor is a industrial?. Ok yes you are correct I should have said a channel not frame rail. If it were a rail i would not consider it. I got a GPW so i baby all these old vehicles. I know about roll overs and yes all that added bubba crap is going but i am leaving the top braceing on for winter to help the tarp keep snow off. This will be a next year project. Just going to get parts and stuff and temp stop the rust. Thank God it came from the south. It foes have a funny story about it i will reveal when i buy it.

Got to holding radiator. That rubber mount that goes to the radiator mount are both missing. Rubber and mount. Not sure on sticker. Im going over tonight and ill clean and picture as much as possible.

Something looks different about that cowl above the valve cover where a BUDD tag would normally be on a Ford. It looks like a rolled edge.

Ok here is the jist of things with this thing. I wiped down the orange tag on the valve cover and it lists the motor as a AM General motor. EPA lists it as a 1973. The dash tag which came with it supposedly lists it as a M151A1 MFD byFord Motor Company. Date of delivery is 9-66 has inspection stamp and the serial number is 2L0406. The bad, it has a good chunk of rot in pass and rear floor, two outer braces off the trans support crossmember rotted bottoms on the outer mid cross member. The two main ones and the rear and center members are solid as are the sides rear and front fenders and firewall. I talked the seller down to 700. so even if this is a bust I should be able to get some money back. Will list some more pics.

Single horn latches, remnants of a shovel handle bracket, no reinforcements pieces on fenders for turn signals... I'm leaning straight Ford m151 instead of A1.

The BUDD tag that would be there if it was a Ford is not there. It would be on the cowl right above the valve cover. The other place to look is on the top of the frame rail under the grill. You have to take the grill out to see it, should be on the drivers side but have seen them on the passenger side also. Very fragile tag so if it is there be careful with it.
