Senate Bill 176 allows for Humvees & other demilitarized

Post by Eddie Holland » Wed Jun 07, 2017 11:25 am

* Senate Bill 176 allows for Humvees and other demilitarized vehicles to be
licensed for use on public roads by the general public. (There is already an
exception carved out for law enforcement.) The state began getting requests from
civilians for such licenses after the Pentagon started auctioning the camo-covered,
husky, troop-transporting High Mobility Multi-purpose Wheeled Vehicles (HMMWV) to
civilians in 2014. Transportation officials said they are on track to begin issuing
the license plates for the vehicles on July 1.

That ought to drive the price up on them substantially. I still think they are worthless.

They are more more or less a fad and a money pit. Many are treated as a "Barbie Doll" and dressed up macho style regardless of mechanical condition.

I have never had to do any major work on one but I can see that just about any kind of driveline work is a real PITA! And parts are expensive. And the one I drove was far from comfortable or easy to drive. Too wide for most small roads and you can't tell where the other side of the vehicle is all that easily without the mirrors. In other words, if a mirror get knocked out of line you have to stop and fix it or you don't know where your right side is. I expect that from a deuce or bigger but not a "small" vehicle.

It's a mechanical monster with many high wear parts to maintain. They can be dangerous if not maintained to the level the Army required.

And I just realized that that bill is only for Kentucky. I Googled Senate Bill 176 and I got a different bill for every state for all kinds of weird stuff. Will not help most people.

Other Demilitarized vehicles. I have 3 M151s 2 without titles. I have went thru the process of getting rebuild titles. I think this will make it even easier for me to get the latest 2 titled also.
