Strange bumper/hydraulic pump question
Hi,
Got this m151a1 with weird bumper installed, and hydraulic pump under hood. All appears factory. Any ideas as to the purpose?

Re: Strange bumper/hydraulic pump question
They had a minesweeper version of the 151 with a whole raft of hydraulic stuff hanging off of the front of it. This could possibly be one of them. Is the data plate in it and if so what does it say?

Re: Strange bumper/hydraulic pump question
Rickf, Looks like you are right...it is exactly the minesweeper front bumper mods that I saw online. One of 27 that were supposedly never completed, according to an article I read. Only one known to exist complete (Krause auction)
Strange thing is that mine has visible marks on the bumper, indicating previously mounted minesweeeper components. Also the hydraulic pump is present, and was full of oil, stained the fender.
Seems to me that more than one minesweeper were actually built!

Re: Strange bumper/hydraulic pump question
There were more than one, I have seen pictures of several. The auction sites will always say it is the only one/one of xx just to pump up sales hoping the prospective buyer will not do the research.

I have a few details of two.... one in the 2N-series (1967) which Roy van Wicklin had. The other was at Ft Leonard Wood and was in the 02E-series (1968).Rickf wrote:There were more than one, .
I seem to remember about 4 or 6 on test at one time.

Re: Strange bumper/hydraulic pump question
I know this post is a few years old, but do you still have these parts you are referring to on your A1. If so I would be very interested in a purchase of them. I just installed the P170 mine sweeping components' on a donated A1 for the Sam Werner Military Museum in Monteagle TN. The parts I am missing are the ones you have. I did make the bumper from two Marine Corp bumpers. Let me know either way if you can. Thanks Mike

You might want to try sending him an e-mail through his profile info, he has not been on here in over a year.

Were you able to get ahold of Andy? He drove to our shop several years ago to pick up body panels. I haven't heard from him in a while.
