Post by JETFIRE » Mon Mar 28, 2016 5:42 am

if you have a missing engine and transmission, what engine and transmission would fit into an m 151 rear differential/chassis?

Jetfire, If you look around an engine/tranny assy can be found inexpensively and would be your easiest option. It would depend on where you are and availability of parts. The modular nature of the Mutt engine will give you everything from the radiator back to the tranny in one nice unit ready to install. Google m151a1 motor and you should find pictures of the whole unit. Maybe someone else can answer your question more fully. Bob

tnx for your comment sir bob, my problem is the availability of m 151 engine and transmission here in my country. It is very rare to find those parts here. My only option is to use Japanese Surplus engine and transmission to resurrect my mutt, Japanese surplus parts are very abundant in this country. I'm thinking of diesel engine for my mutt.

I don't know where you are located and I don't have any experience in replacing with diesels but the Pakistani members do this swap a lot. Hopefully one of them will chime in.

The Vietnamese use a lot of Toyota engines. I have no idea how they mate them to the transmissions.

Well that certainly is NOT set up for a 151 engine! Those motor mounts look all the world like Ford V8 mounts although they could b used for many applications. The bracket coming out from the side probably held a clutch cable for whatever was in there. And that firewall has been modified by raising the center of it up to make room for a taller engine.
