Gentlemen .. Anyone has any idea how can I check the speedometer gauge itself whether it is working or not before deciding to buy a new speedo cable? ... I thank you for you support!

A battery operated drill and a short piece of speedo cable or anything that will fit into the hole in the gauge.

Hi Rick ... I think I fixed the gauge :) ... I have dettached the cable from the gauge and I saw it spinning while driving the car ... I then spinned the little pulley in the gauge by hand and I saw the gauge giving readings ... I have attached the cable again and tighten it well and the gauge is working perfectly ... I will keep an eye on it and if it stopped again I will replace the cable as it is a little cheaper than the gauge! ... Thanks!

The gauges do not go bad very often. As you found out, it is usually a bad cable. Try to pull the cable out of the housing, it might just slide right out if there is no clip on the other end. If it comes out put some grease on it and put it back in. Slide it in till it stops and then try to turn it,if it starts to turn gently push in while slowly turning and it will slip in the square drive at the transmission end. You are done. :) Put the gauge back on. This is the best way to prevent the cable from breaking. It may not slide out from the gauge end, in that case I would not worry about it unless you have the transmission cover off and you can get to the other end.

If your going to pull the inner speedo cable out of the housing make sure to put a light coating of grease on it before you slip it back in. This will help keep rust from binding it up and ease the problem if it already has. I use a good silicon grease but almost any grease will do. GAA works fine. Keep the connections on both ends tight to prevent water from gettin in in the first place.
