JIMMY IN HIBERNATION-NEW YEARS EVE
My sleeping beauty.
I sneaked into the barn. She's sound asleep. Not a creature was stirring. She has a belly full of fuel and will spring to life in a couple months
What's nice about a closed cab CCKW is it can be buttoned up tight and the usual varmints stay out. Had this CCKW 33 years, imported from Denmark via thru one of the first of the bigtine surplus dealers-SUPREME SURPLUS, Metuchen, NJ.

Re: JIMMY IN HIBERNATION-NEW YEARS EVE
Temptation got me, the Jimmy was looking me in the eye and begging me to fire it up, been setting since Veterans Day Parade. Outside temp is 45F today, Each type MV has it's own time tested starting procedure. Had it going in 20 seconds without having to use priming lever (which I never use). It felt good to hear that healthy GMC 270 sound that only a CCKW makes. 20 minutes of fast idle after the engine was up to operating temp did it some good.
Any of you out there with CCKW's, it's good practice to pump the brake pedal 4 or 5 times after shut down to exhaust the residual vacuum from your Hydrovac.
Did the same to my M-37, also been sitting since November. She fired right off in 20 or so seconds.

Re: JIMMY IN HIBERNATION-NEW YEARS EVE
20 March, 2016.
The Jimmy's ready for duty, Sir!
Love these old soldiers, they always wake up ready to go, the 20 second rule always applies, no priming, no boosting. Pretty good for a truck that turns 75 in a few weeks. I'll bet it would get up and go by itself to the sound of an Army Band playing the Caisson Song.

Re: JIMMY IN HIBERNATION-NEW YEARS EVE
Couldn't resist the temptation.
Woke it up this past weekend, January 15th, for a half hour fast idle, was 30 Degrees, I have a little CCKW routine for starting a stored Jimmy, one for Die Cast Carburetor, and one for Cast Iron Carburetor. The Die Cast CCKW's are more eager to go.
Can't wait for Spring and the trips to Tim Hortons and the ANG Base(DOW FIELD).

My CCKW at rest. Same thing every year.
Hibernation's over, 2018 CCKW season is now official. Reveille was at 0600, the CCKW is out of the barn and headed to Tim Hortons this AM.

Re: JIMMY IN HIBERNATION-NEW YEARS EVE
There is nothing like opening the garage door and see a Jeep or CCKW eager to be driven.
I wish I were "Ben Hur" and could drive two chariots at once. The key to maintaining my handful of restored MV's is to be the only operator. There are too many volunteers that "drove one in the Army" and can't find the starter, 1st or Reverse when seated in my MV's. The last straw was a driver that wiped the original clutch out of my MB in a 1-1/2 mile parade.

Re: JIMMY IN HIBERNATION-NEW YEARS EVE
I let a friend drive my GPW last summer...long story short, he drove it like he drives his brand new manual car, even with me providing guidance. Way too hard on the gas, way too quick with the shifting, and way too hard on the brakes. He was the last, and probably will be the last that I let to drive it
Great looking CCKW, Joel. I expect, and hope, we'll start to see more and more MV picts from you now that it's driving season up north?

Re: JIMMY IN HIBERNATION-NEW YEARS EVE
I drive my MB thru CCKW with a "light as a feather touch" as if there are raw eggs lying loose on the seat cushions. No more emptying out the motor pool for a parade.

Re: JIMMY IN HIBERNATION-NEW YEARS EVE
It's OK to dream, Spring's 3 month's off. My CCKW's got a tank full of Ethanol Free gasoline, Spring startup is quicker and the truck runs better on the Ethanol Free. Those post WWII era yellow decals, they are GI Issue and add a bit of legitimate color to the 2430 OD. Those dog tags rattling from the mirror are a friendly sound, especially the set worn by by my Uncle Joe, WWII Ranger.
