G506 In Bing Crosby's White Christmas

Post by cannonfire123 » Fri Dec 06, 2013 3:52 pm

Spotted a G506 in the open sine of "White Christmas". I guess Bing Crosby and Danny Kay needed something to haul their vast combat load of musical instruments! :D

Maybe that's Farrell's truck!

It takes a true Chevy enthusiast to notice.

Haven't seen it yet this season, but from memory, I think General Waverly drive a G503 around the ski resort and to the train station in a few other scenes. Probably one of those $50 surplus jeeps the army was selling to everyone after the war.
Or, maybe the General shipped one home in his GI mail, part by part.

There was also a G-506 in ranch scenes of Roy Rogers and Gabby Hayes 40's black and white movies.

Didn't Sky King have a surplus P-51 Mustang Tank Buster that he used to strafe the columns of cattle rustlers in his TV series?

(no, not really!)

wow I always assumed it was a deuce. Good eye to spot it. Watching it last night, I noticed for the first time that in the train station the cab driver is wearing his WW2 bomber jacket with the name and art work all scrubbed out. Interesting that it was being repurposed as an old jacket.

And when Gen. Waverly is forced to wear his WWII uniform to the big show at the end. we looked, but couldn't see a ruptured duck on his, or anyone else's uniform. And, unless the big show took place within 90 days of their discharge, they were all out of uniform anyway.
