MEMORIAL DAY 2012
Had a good Memorial Day Parade this year with well over 1000 participants marching, many of them Veterans from the 30's thru present.
Only entered my 1941 SWB CCKW this year. This is my truck berfore leaving for the parade.

Re: MEMORIAL DAY 2012
This is M-SGT Donald Libby, USAF Retired,(with the white hair) before the parade formed, he is a WWII thru Vietnam Veteran, was a Mechanic and Crewchief on many aircraft including P-51, C-47, B-25, F-86 and F-101. Sgt Libby is in his 90's now and one of my favorite persons. He has a booming voice that I am positive, could be heard over his B-25 at full throttle.

Re: MEMORIAL DAY 2012
Thanks, I have started adding the names of my local WWII heros and mentors to the sides of my MV's. Am realizing now that it is way too late after they have passed on and should have been done when they were alive so that they would realize the appreciation. Am having the local sign shop make up lettering for CWO Joseph DeRoche, A Battery, 152nd Field Artillery. He was local National Guard, called to duty in early 1941. His batallion Island hopped from Guadalcanal, Munda, Northern Solomons, New Gunia, Luzon from 42-45. He volunteered to take a Jeep with a 105 behind it on a Landing Craft to shell a Japaneese Troop Vessel anchored off an island. He remarked that the landing craft nearly sank each time he fired. Joe was the Batallion Maintenance Supervisor for the National Guard HQ from late 40's thru 1976, and one of the "Greater Generation". He was my friend along with the many others from my community that were called to duty in his unit, and there are just a handfull left. I remember many of them returning, nice and trim, carrying their duffel bags and walking up to their houses after getting out of cabs, it all comes back with each obituary.

Re: MEMORIAL DAY 2012
Sorry to hear that. They are all getting really old. I stopped a gentleman in the hardware store today who was wearing a ball cap with the 95th bomb group on it . We talked for quite a while . He told me he was 91. It was great to speak with him but also sad to realize none of his breed will be with us much longer.

Re: MEMORIAL DAY 2012
Speaking of Veterans, there is one special Veteran that I remember from time to time, Louie Bassett, WWII Navy Frogman and a lot of fun to hang around with.
Louie is a member of one of the local Indian Tribes, and was a grade foreman for a contractor on an I-95 Construction project my survey crew was assigned to. Louie was a member of a WWII Navy underwater Demolition Team and did not get far enough away when explosives he planted went off, it affected his behavior in a bizarre way. My buddies and I used to make money off Louie by soliciting bets from bar room buddies who did not believe he could do 80 one arm push ups. He was good for 40-50 bucks a nite in 1960's money.

Re: MEMORIAL DAY 2012
Look s like you had a good day Ben. I had the honour of having a veteran in my jeep last week, he was 90 and called Arthur. He drove Shermans in the war, and thanked me for driving him round the showground. I told him i was honoured to have a real hero in my jeep. He loved it, and rightly so. We must cherish these guys while they are still with us.
