I know it is my own quote but, I got two GTB's both 1942 Cargos 228 numbers apart from each other. Can't wait to get started on them this Spring. I will keep you posted.

I have a question. One of the GTBs has what appears to be some sort of power take off on the side of the transmission. Any ideas?

There was a "one off" GTB prototype that was built as a Wrecker. Perhaps there were some surplus PTO's available.
And, don't forget, some GTB's did have front Winches.

Cool. Thanks. I will take a picture and post it. I think that wrecker thing might hold true because, this GTB has some sort of weirdness going on with brackets above the springs. Here is the brackets.

Those are for the helper springs, fitted to bomb truck chassis. There should be an extra leaf spring on top of the main rear springs.
PTO on the gearbox will be for front winch.

I believe there were 50 wreckers built? No sign of any of them anywhere.

Would they have used this truck on an artillery base? That is where it was purchased and lived according to my sources.

Quite possibly, they were used all over the place.

A bomb truck. OK, that makes sense due to the size of some of the shells but, it has the hat channel for a Cargo and no winch. the transmission number matches the frame so, if the PTO was added where the side plate is, why do you think they did that? P.S. I am so glad you have restored and know about these because, I think you and Joel are the only ones that have understood my deleimma with this beast.

Have you got a picture of the PTO? There were many types that could be fitted aftermarket.

Here is my throw together drawings. I will replace them with real pictures when I get them. Top drawing looks like my "normal" one. Second drawing is what I am talking about.
