Excellent Ralph! Looks like you're starting to get close to finishing that girl up. Very cool that you were able to recover some of the original star and capture a photo of it.

Ralph, the engine looks great. I'm slowly trying to put all the accessories on mine now. The oil filler tube cap in silver/plated is a nice touch. I'm putting the Purolator filter together for my MB, and went back and forth on whether to plate or paint black the two screws that hold the filter bands together (looks like the screws on Fram's are typically plated). After looking at some factory photos of Purolator filters, decided that black can certainly be appropriate so I just painted them - nice to now pull up this and see you did the same.

Looks like the body turned out really sharp as well, please post some more photos on your resto thread when you get a chance!

Thank you Paul. The clamp screws I've seen both ways also. This canister rig was painted just the way you see it,not by me though.I was too lazy to strip the bolts' paint. My guess is that they'd be Cad...the oil fill tube is NOS from Ron-nice Cad under the cosmo. My original had the baffle missing... the fuel strainer probably should have been left natural.
Gonna try to catch the thread up when this spring grass gives me a break.

A lot of work under the hood, it sets the standard for others to follow.

Ralph, plenty of photos of the fuel strainer cover either OD or natural, so all good is my guess. Most are OD, but there's at least one or two WO factory line photos that the strainer looks unpainted. I may go the natural route.

In this photo, the Purolator clamp screws certainly look like they are painted black. My guess is the filters arrive as a unit so the screws being cad or painted was more of a Fram vs. Purolator difference (vs. a MB/GPW or early/late thing)?

Is it the same Jeep in the before and after pictures ?
The cut-outs for the rear shocks are not the same shape.

Is the new star painted on the same location ?
There is a difference if you compare the star with the holes...

Nice engine bay though.

Hello to 3.6rs in Belgium,
You have a pretty good eye.As the rear floor was being replaced, the cleanup of the wheelhouse where the shock mount covers are spot welded...included wiz-wheel work at those cuts to remove some rust/corrosion.A slightly different configuration-by comparison-was the result.
I put the star stencil in place focused on the grab handle bolt's position to the original.WW2 pics show it all over that area even though there were specs...
Glad you like the Engine bay,It was all great fun.Best wishes-
Ralph

Looking beautiful, some Grotelite 100 reflector lenses will be icing on the cake, they have a way of reaching out and grabbing you.

I was short a complete set of original Corcoran Browns for my MB and cheated by installing a NOS set of Arrows w/Grotelite 100's. Lens.
