Wow. This thing is absolutely awesome! Biggest questions...is it flyable and have you actually flown it yet?Ben Dover wrote:My newest MV just loves being aired out.
America's first operational Jet Fighter from back when MB's and CCKW's roamed the roads.
I first saw one of these during 1947-48 period at DOW FIELD, the F-80 is my all time favorite Jet.

Re: AIRING OUT MY TOYS
It is airworthy, I have not nor do I plan to fly it. My pocket book will not support the risk of totaling it. This model has won several National and Worldwide Large Scale RC Jet events over the years. Hope to add a T-33 to my air force in the near future.

Can't say I blame you for not flying it! I've see quite a few videos of people online flying their RC jets into the ground or trees and creating massive fire balls. The crashes are really cool to see, if you're not the one paying the bill, that is

From Jeeps to Jets, been there-done that, the "toys" are just waiting for the virus restrictions to be lifted. I feel like the "Frito Bandito".

Re: AIRING OUT MY TOYS
Joel,
Wishing all is well. Just found this "photo gallery - Airing out my toys" link and truly admire your toys! Echo your comments about how frustrating things have been. This year has been difficult for most as with the pandemic, it has limited if not eliminated, the opportunity to enjoy seeing MV's gather at parades/shows and get together with others to talk & share conversations about our love for these interests.
Noticed the 357th FG/363 FS markings on your jeep. Do you have any connections with the 357th or 363rd? Although I am a ways off from finishing my 42' GPW, I would like to paint my jeep in the markings of a WW2 FG. From my limited research thus far, it has been difficult for me to find period photos of FG jeeps. Do you or does anyone else have any suggested resources or places where I can find out more so that I can paint the appropriate markings on the bumper and bumperettes?
Best regards,
Todd

Re: AIRING OUT MY TOYS
Merle Olmstead sent me photos of 357th FG Jeeps and WC's. They are buried somewhere in my stuff. Merle was the historian for the 352nd and authored many books and warbird articles in aviation magazines. I wanted to meet General Yeager for 45 years and contacted Merle for help on markings.
Merle passed away abut 5 years ago. There is a good book on ETO markings, "MARQUAGES ET ORGANISATION, U.S. ARMY ETO 1944-45" by Emile Becker and Jean Milmeister. It s printed in French and German with an insert in English. It is well illustrated with markings for WWII wheeled vehicles and tanks, It can be found on the web and at Portrayal Press, I paid around $80.00 back in 1988, it is well written and printed on quality stock.
John Wolnough, the founder of the Eighth AIR FORCE Historical Society, wrote a few books about 8th AF, some were well illustrated with Jeeps and Aircraft
There is a new book out "U.S. ARMY VEHICLE MARKINGS-1944 and it is well worth the $26.00.
