There were three distributors for the M38:
IAU4004UT This was the distributor without a radio noise filter in it. The radio noise filter for the very early M38 was mounted seperate on the firewall thru serial MC20599 (May 51). This distributor used a connecting lead from the filter that looked very much like a spark plug lead.
IAU4006UT was the second M38 distributor used from MC20599 thru about MC53262 (Feb 52) when the fording system and engine block changed they went with a more water resistant distributor and generator.
IAU4006AUT was the third and final M38 MC53262 & on distributor. This distributor was also the main M38A1 distributor.
X20488 was a Delco replacement distributor for the M38A1.

Distributors
I have distributors in stock. If interested, we can discuss over the phone.
952-440-8778
First series distributor used a different coil, input capacitor, and housing.
Second series looked the same as the first, just as waterproof. Used the coil most commonly seen, input capacitor was moved from under the coil to inside the housing behind the coupling. Both the early and later models will accpet the input lead that comes from the remote noise filter.
Superior Magneto also made parts for these distributors.

Re: Wanted: NOS Distributor
I have the first series 4004 on the 675th M38 manufactured and it uses the standard coil with no capacitor in the distributor but on the firewall.
