Gas to Natural Gas/Propane Conversion?

Post by ng19delta » Wed Nov 16, 2011 1:13 pm

Hi Guys-
I am working with an M-5 generator(Hercules ZXB engine, 5KW IIRC), and was wondering how hard would it be to make it so it could run on either regular gas OR propane/natural gas, so I have alternatives should either be in low stock when I need to use it, or so I can hook into house system if needed.

How hard a conversion would this be? Has anyone done it? I do not want to go just one or the other- I want to set it up to work on either...

I am imagining if I left the stock intake and carb setup alone, I could add a feed tap for the propane/natural gas into the intake, and then a pressure regulator, with some sort of feed regulator connected to the generator. I am planning to mount the unit on a 1/4 ton trailer frame, so hanging a larger fuel tank & propane bottle would be easy, and then have a quick-disconnect for a line to hook to house supply if I need to run it during power outages...

Ideas? Comments?

Thanks!
Scott

To do a dual fuel conversion, you will need to mount the propane converter ahead of the carby.
