Hello Group,
The MVPA needs the persons name, if you are a MVPA member ( if not while not ? ), and a copy of the denial barring importing US made military vehicles back into the US in the past. My email is xstuff@juno.com. Thanks in advance for helping to compile this list.

We are continuing to gain interest in the legislative branch. But!!! as of yet no one has come forward to show proof of injury/denial.

Depending on the age of the vehicles, they might be subject to FMVSS upon re-import back into the U.S. Once they're sold outside of the U.S., they are considered Civilian vehicles for purposes of reimport. Here's a 1997 NHTSA letter of interpretation about this: http://isearch.nhtsa.gov/files/18202.ztv.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
So if the vehicle is less than 25 yrs. old, you'd have to import it through an R.I. and bring it into compliance with FMVSS. If it's older than 25 yrs. old, then it's exempted from FMVSS requirements. It's the same process that allowed the Pinzgauers into the U.S.

Re: MVPA needs import data
I know this thread is a few years old, but has anyone had any problems importing WWII US-made vehicles back into the US?

Re: MVPA needs import data
Matt,
All WWII vehicles are older than 25 years old at this point. Therefore, none of the FMVSS requirements apply to those vehicles anymore (all vehicles older than 25 years are exempted from FMVSS). I do not KNOW, but I will assume, that all WWII vehicles can be readily imported to the U.S.
If you have a question about a specific vehicle or situation, contact U.S.DOT/NHTSA and ask them. They are helpful.
