Colorado MV law
Thanks to the hard work by a few MVCC ( the Colorado version), we now have a new law in our fine state that allows any MV that is painted and has military markings to drive w/o a plate. You must keep the issued plate on board but don't have to much up the image with a modern plate.
Thanks,
Lew

Re: Colorado MV law
Lew,
Glad to hear this!!!!!
Does Colorado limit the uses of the MV if being driven without a tag?
Is the hood number being used as a substitute as in several other states?

Re: Colorado MV law
Kevin,
Sorry for the delayed response. I don't check this thread too often.
A person with a military vehicle if it is still painted like it was ( does not have to be original, just look like a military paint job) can keep the tags in a tool box. They do not need to display on the vehicle. No rules as to use of the vehicle, no weight rules, no parade BS. Just pick what type of tags work best for you. Shove them in the tool box and go!
Your registration is what ever the title says. Hood numbers sometimes end up on titles but not often. Usually frame or engine number.
The MVCC did this one right! We have had no issues since all members carry a copy of the law along with the tags so they can show Barny the law if stopped.

Lew,
Thanks for the clarification. Can you post the link to the statute or send me a copy?

Kevin,
Here ya go:
http://mvcconline.org/catagory2/license ... 20bill.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
It is very simple. The representatives tried to muck it up but our team kept them in line and made it very simple. The state wanted weight, use, and other restrictions but again our team pushed for simple stuff. It worked! How rare is that!

Re: Colorado MV law
Looks like the DMV in Colorado is already cancelling vehicle titles and issuing replacements for "off highway use only"
https://denvergazette.com/military/colo ... b9ef3.html
On March 22, the DMV sent out an unknown number of letters to Hummer owners voiding their highway-use titles and issuing them an “OHV-Surplus Military Vehicle” title that only allows them to register their commercial Hummers as off-highway vehicles.
The action effectively lumped Olmstead's commercial Hummer – and how many others is unclear – in with military High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles together, forcing them all off of Colorado's highways.
Owners of historical military vehicles going back as far as WWII and sometimes even earlier that have been titled and licensed by the state for decades will now have their titles transitioned into only off-highway use “in the next phase,” according to Kuhn.
Movish said he suspects DMV is trying “to get rid of all the military vehicles that are out there on the highways" in Colorado.

Re: Colorado MV law
Today is Friday, April 15th, 2022 and I can personally attest to the latest involving this issue
Today I went to my local DMV located in teller county, Colorado.
i went to the DMV today to get my title and registration for one of my recently purchased ww2 era trucks.
In a nut shell, I was informed that they have been instructed to NOT allow application for military vehicles, regardless of age or make.
All Colorado DMV branches were given an “updated” version of the current law that DOES NOT allow the registration and titling of former military vehicles.
This is an addendum to the current law on the books found on our gov DMV site:
(SB) 19-054
CRC 42-6-102
This law (above) allows the registration and titling if it’s a “HISTORIC” military vehicle, signed into law back in 2019
This new addendum they were issued says absolutely NO former MV’s can be titled with an ON- road title, and will NOT be issued plates or registration.
Instead they offer ONLY an off road title!!
Is the MVPA aware of this?
If so, this new ruling will effectively
Remove ALL MILITARY vehicles off the road in an entire state.
No more parades or convoys

Re: Colorado MV law
In addition, this new “law” allows the DMV to revoke current titles at any time.
And replace said title with an “off road use” only title
And replace said title with an “off road use” only title

Hello,
Ignorant communism on the march, beware as this is what they are doing all over America, where they get power.
This can be seen everyday, in almost every state, regardless of the subject matter.
Beware and push back !
Good luck to those in Colorado.
Sounds like a taking without due process !
Also it is an ex post facto outlawing of lawful property , papers, and activity.
Keep 'em Rolling !!
