PAYPAL Scammers are working on G503!

Post by jbjeeps » Sun Oct 22, 2017 5:41 am

WARNING!

PAYPAL scammers are working on G503. I came very close this week to giving away my PAYPAL password, which would have given the scammers access to both my PAYPAL account and the bank account that is connected to it.

If you are selling an item and get an official looking email from PAYPAL telling you that you have been sent money and that you must “Claim Your Money” by clicking on a button and entering your PAYPAL password, DON’T DO IT!

The scammers used the email address I had on file here on G503 to make contact with me.

Fortunately, I realized I had never received a “Claim Your Money” email from PAYPAL and I did not enter my PAYPAL account password.

After two phone calls to PAYPAL I understood what had happened.

I don't use PAYPAL often, so this was a real wake up call for me. I'm passing this along for others who may not be aware of it.

Here’s what I learned:

1. PAYPAL is a safe and secure way to send and receive money IF you understand how it works.
2. I have friends who have used PAYPAL safely for years to buy and sell all kinds of things.
3. PAYPAL will NEVER send you an email telling you that you must “CLAIM YOUR MONEY”.
4. Never list your full name as it appears on your PAYPAL account in your sale ads.
5. An actual official email from PAYPAL will include your full name as it appears on your PAYPAL account, so keep your full name as it appears on your PAYPAL account secure, don’t give it out.
6. Change your PAYPAL password often.
7. Don’t keep a lot of money in your PAYPAL account or in the bank account your PAYPAL account is connected to.

Thanks. I don't use PAYPAL too often, so this was a real wake up call for me.

You're welcome. Glad to do it. Hopefully it helps someone avoid getting caught up by these creeps.

I've reported it to Paypal and they are investigating.

My rule of thumb is always open PayPal by their website and not a link. I do that with most sites also. I have heard of that scam before

This is why I don't use the fancy "on line" stuff. I deal direct with customers, preferably in person. Sure, I buy and sell stuff online, but it is small potatoes and small amounts of money. If, for example, it is something like a Jeep, NO WAY am I going to expose me to $6,000 loss and theft of my identity. I don't even get on Facebook. Prob'ly I "lose" (?) money that way, but I don't care. Better safe than sorry! :x

When I get here emails, I leave the email and go directly to the PayPal or other site and log in directly - I get emails from "Microsoft" and "yahoo" like this periodically - never trust an unsolicited email....

My advice anyway,
