The Jeep is backed up against the wall in winter storage. The number is the same as what is shown in ORD9 SNL G-758. I have more of these Pintles on my shelf, all will have same ORD number, cotter pin hole or w/o. The Civilian Casting from Holland will not. Beware of the Holland's civilian equivalent hitch as used on the M-38A1 as it has evolved into having no grease fittings.

Here's how the Mil did it (before the instructions to remove the chains from the trailer).

Although the M-38/M-38A1 Pintle Hook is reasonably secure without the chains, it is strange why the trailers were ordered with chains and the factory never installed provisions. It is likely in some obscure files tho.
The available supply of M-151 Chain brackets make an ideal solution. The heavier lunette of the M-38/M-38A1 do not allow the WWII Safety Chain Eyebolts to fit.

Well old boy the photo was posted by you 24 hours ago.

Note the ORD# cast into the base of the GI Issue Pintle Hook.
So it stands to reason that instead of telling us now to guess what the number on that pintle is you should put forth the effort to publish a readable photos.

I've doubled the size of the photo you posted and it is still not positively identifiable.

ORD9 SNL G-758, (September 1956) Group 1503, Page 270 has the part listed as "PINTLE,TOWING" not "PINTLE ASSEMBLY". Figure 15-2 Page 264 illustrates it as item "H".
Cuz, am leaving a little bit for you to do just as I did my students in the old days, it is good practice for you in order to become fluent with the TM's and SNL's.

I thought the pic came out well due to the confined space I had before backing it into its hibernation spot the other day. It now has a good dose of Stabil and one of Zero Davidson's 24 Volt Battery Maintainers plugged into the Slave Recepticle in order to allow the GI Issue Prestolite 2HN Batteries a 10 year lifespan.

You can skip the demeaning remarks and just answer the question. The question only concerns the numbers as cast in that particular Pintle.

Many of you will note that an M-151 era Pintle Hook is installed on Joels' M-38A1, it has the "safety pin" and chain used on 1960's and later installations notably M-151 and M-37B1.

Anybody have any of these clever NOS Canadian M-38/M-38A1 Safety Chain Brackets for sale?.. Was there ever a Willys Part Number for them?

I did fabricate a few of these a number of years ago from an original, I may still have one in the shop someplace.
There was no numbers on the original that I used, looked like something that RCEME thought up on the spur of the moment.
Just a piece of round stock threaded at either end, then bent to shape to accept the hooks.

The first one I bought had military packaging with a part number. I think it came from Levys.

Did you lengthen your chains, or did you install M-416 Chains?
Best fix is M-151 Safety Chain Bracket that attaches between the pintle and rear cross member.
Note:
It is best to install your hooks so that the open end is toward the rear, they will have less tendency to bounce out.
