JEEP PASSENGER SAFETY RAIL

Post by Joe Gopan » Sat Sep 23, 2017 4:32 am

The Passenger Safety Rail, 681039, was introduced on the M-38A1, it sure would have been handy on MB and MC(M-38).

Same Safety Rail was also made available as an accessory for the CJ-5 in 1955 as KIT, Safety Rail, passenger seat. It came with a 689311 Rail, safety, drawing and two bolts with nuts/washers.
I remember that the first CJ-5 dash boards had to be drilled per the drawing, later had the holes pre punched. CJ Rail was Black, but same as the M-38A1 Rail.

I was driving 350Lb. Army Advisor M/SGT Frank Wyman in an M-38A1 while observing M-42 Duster maneuvers and did my best to lift him off the seat, he sat there like a "bean bag", any other human would have been bounced off the seat.

Most likely. Frank was approaching retirement. He died of a stroke in 1965. They had trouble finding Pall Bearors.

Nearby DowAFB had an Air Police Staff Sgt NCOIC of the Temporary Vehicle Pass section who was too heavy to weigh in at the Base Hospital.
S/SGT Gonzales contracted pneumonia and the Base Hospital wrapped him in a sheet and took him to Base Supply to use the freight Scale.
This was 1966.
