M38A1 and M170 Main Wiring Harness Differences

Post by w30bob » Thu Apr 27, 2017 6:00 pm

Hi Guys,

Can someone summarize the physical differences between the main wiring harnesses for the A1 and M170? I've been looking at the ORD and going nuts trying to figure out what it's trying to tell me in the pics of the two vehicle's wiring harnesses. I can see the voltage regulator is in different places, but that's a separate harness. I understand the length of that harnesses is different going to the back of the vehicles, but is everything else the same up front? Gas tank sender, master cylinder brake switch, horn, gauges, ignition switch, engine temp and pressure senders are all in the same place. What am I missing? Reason I ask is that NOS 170 main wiring harnesses are available and A1 harnesses are not. I don't mind modifying a 170 harness to fit my A1, but want to know what I'm getting myself into BEFORE I take the plunge.

thanks,
bob
