M38a1 Help

Post by USMC9399 » Wed Nov 23, 2016 5:42 am

I'm still pretty new to this, and still searching for the right M38A1. I am searching for USMC variant. I think I have found one, but the serial number has me thrown. I thought the military numbers fro these all started with "MD". This one does not. It says it is a M38A1 on the plate..but I was hoping for a little more info from the people here with such a greater amount of knowledge. I don't want to purchase a faked vehicle. Thanks for the help! This also has a "Kelly hard top" am I correct in thinking that hard top would be aftermarket?

Note, it indicates it is a "Model MD" on the dash board Data Plate.
Many USMC Jeeps were undercoated. Look for USMC Paind underneath body brackets, such as the Air Cleaner,, the Engine Heater Access Plate on the passenger floor, the data plates on the dash, etc.
Note the USMC Rear cross member Kit with lifting Shackles.

Kelly Cab is Civilian, but some GI Jeeps had civilian cabs bought thru Local Purchase.
Looks USMC to me.

Not Bogus....real USMC jeep....That is a late contract M38a1 Made specifically for the Marine Corps... Yes MD ...when vehicles went from Willys to Kaiser. Aluminum data plates are correct., Positraction in Diffs... also a few other subtle differences....packard plugs on wires, black steering wheel, rubber accelerator pedal, M151 style air cleaner.... Best M38a1's made....buy it.. Top.... I doubt it...

Enjoy!
