Pretty new to my '53 M38-A1 and was looking on one of the parts sites and found the reference to the U-shaped brackets on the front bumper identified as parachute spools. Apparently they are to have a roller on the through pin. I assumed that these were just for pulling, towing or loading on a ship, etc. Would someone be so kind as to explain how these were used and why they are called parachute spools?
Thanks,
Bruce in Delaware.

Re: M38 A1 Parachute spools
The M-38/M-38A1 Jeeps have factory installed Front and Rear lifting hook brackets with lifting shackles. I believe you will find the Parachute Spools are part of the rigging when the Jeeps are prepared for air drop.
I have some TM's on preparing Jeeps for airdrop, will put it on the bottom of my "to do" list. .
