Battery Tender

Thinking of buying a 24V battery tender. What does everyone else use to keep their batteries charged up?

I have a battery tender on all my stored batteries, 6V and 12V. I am convinced that they have prolonged the life of all my batteries. I am a faithful user of these type chargers/maintainers.

Had 24 V Battery Tender, worked well. Lightening hit the garage and I lost the garage door opener and at least 3 battery tenders.
Set the roof on on fire. Spent time out in the storm spraying down the roof with the water hose until the fire department got there. Saved everything else and now its all fixed. I have to replace the Battery Tenders, but was thinking about some different ones like CTEK Genius. Looks like there are some smarter ones out there now. I have used the one from Northern Tool with 12V applications and it seems to work well. I'll do some more research before replacing these.

I just use a conventional 12v charger though the winter months when I'm not driving. I clean up the batteries, case and posts, and use the charger as needed every month or so to keep the batteries up to specs.

I don't use a tender. Not that I am against them. I used to have one for my motorcycle until I sold it.

I have had the same batteries in my M38A1 for 5 years and have never had to charge them. I do have a battery disconnect that I shut off when I park it.

I try to drive the Jeep every month but the weather does not always allow that. My batteries have remained clean and I have done little to them.

My Son has a M35A1 with a solorgizer and a disconnect but his batteries are always corroded and need cleaning. So I am thinking the constant charging is causing his corrosion. Thoughts?

My thought. A proper charger/maintainer "floats" and only charges when the battery calls for a charge. A good one also de-sulfates(correct term?). This helps maintain the battery's fitness.

Thanks for the info. I think I will try the battery tender and see how it works out.

I use this one.

I have an alternator so I mounted it on the voltage regulator plate. Stays permenantly connected to the batteries and I just plug it in when I want and unplug when I want.

I added 5 years to the life of the GI Issue US 2HN Batteries with the off season use of a battery maintainer. 2HN's normally last about 5 years when the pairs are kept together in the same vehicle.
