Weired m38a1 rims ?

Post by JD64 » Sat Aug 15, 2015 9:06 pm

I got a 64 m38a1 and two sets of rims, one is regular late edition ones, but the other is weired. The second set has the air stem valve on the inside of the tire, instead of out side. Does anyone have any info on these rims ? Tried to upload[img]

Not an M-38A1 or even a Jeep rim. Looks like a wheel from an old equipment trailer like a generator or welder.
Explain "regular late edition".
Are these 16" wheels?

Here a picture, and that's what my other set looks like (just not a pretty). I have a whole set of the ones with the air stem inside, and half the set was on the jeep when i got it. It fits perfectly, and has the stepped spokes. It looks stock when mounted. It could be a trailer, but just doesn't seem right. Would love to find out whats there for if not m38a1.

I have seen strange features on the wheels of M-100's at Ft Devens where the hole for the valve stem was on the inside. Getting back to that odd wheel on your M-38A1, there are civilian truck wheels that have similar bolt circles such as those from old Ford light trucks, Datsuns, Toyotas, etc. It's just an odd wheel that someone found that would stick on there, and nothing factory or Army Issue M-38A1.

I do recall from years ago a bulletin where wheels with the valve stems on the inside were installed to prevent the stems from being cut off in some situations.
