LATE 60'S M-38A1 CDN 3

Post by Joe Gopan » Tue Jan 07, 2014 4:56 am

Does anyone have an intact 1967 era M-38A1 CDN-3 with original reflectors? Are they Guide or another brand. Earlier M-38A1 Jeeps have factory installed Oval Guide A2 with Guidex or Stimsonite 12A lens. Am interested to hear what is OEM to 1967 era M-38A1 CDN 3.

M38A1 CDN2 were made 1967/68 by Kaiser Jeep Corporation, Windsor, Ontario. CDN3 models were made by Jeep Corporation, Toledo, Ohio in 1970/71. I check several unrestored jeeps I have: it appears that they used Grotelite reflectors with the later rounded oval metal frame rather then the earlier more angular frame typical of Guide. The red plastic lens is a uniform medium-sized jewelled texture with no center dividing line. The top reads "Grotelite" with "SAE A" just below while the bottom reads "No.1100". I can see Grotelite stamped on the metal frames but there is too much old paint to see more details. ..... Brian

Thanks. I ordered reflectors from Jeep a number of years ago using the M-38A1 Part Number and did get the Grote as you described. Normally the US made M-38A1 would have oval Guide A-2 with either Stimsonite 12A or Guidex lens.
