You can check the matrer index to the MVPA Army Motors back in the 70's, there was an article or two about the GI bracket kit to adapt the Tandem Towbar for installation on the front of the M-38/M-38A1 bumper.

Thanks...any idea if these bracket kits are still out there? I have the TB that describes the installation and shows the M38A1 specific parts, buti only have the towbar and the wooden block and strap that goes on the grill to hold the rowboat up when not in use.

Like anything else Jeep, they do show up from time to time. Onlu drawback is that you will not be able to hand crank your M-38A1 if you install the towbar kit.

Jon,

Many years ago (early 80s), I got a tandem towbar and mounting kit from Phil Nelson for my M38. The mounting kit was a pair of formed plates and all of the hardware to offset and mount the towbar on the M38 and M38A1 ahead of the bumper.

Over the years, Phil has been my go to guy for obscure stuff, as he always squirrels away a few of the last of evrything that he has had. It's worth a phone call tomorrow morning.
