Postby circleburner12 » Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:14 pm

ok guys, i need opinions!!. while taking off the old canvas from the seats, the original springs are in pretty good shape for being as old as they are. im trying to decide on cleaning the springs up and reusing them or just order new cusion's.

if i decide to reuse the springs, cana person send them in to one of the canvas shops and have them recovered like the original's?

post all opinions please. thxs

I'd reuse the springs, but I'm a purist like that.

A good high density foam will give a better ride in some's opinion, so you could store the springs and opt for foam.

If reusing the springs, there isn't anything difficult involved in recovering them. The front bottom covers are secured by pulling the drawstring and bending the tabs on the seat pans over the edge. The other springs aren't really covered; they are secured to the frames by the act of installing the covers to the frames.

Keep in mind that these tasks were routinely carried out by 18-20ish year old motorpool mechanics. It ain't rocket science and barely qualifies as Upholstery work.

Clean and paint your springs, install a layer of rubberized hair covered with a thin layer of cotton or dacron batting, put your covers on and get to jeeping!

I would go definitely with the springs

Any foam no-matter how good will not have the same storage energy and dumping function of an actual spring

It will just squiz under your weight and stay there with little absorption effect.

The springs are far better and will give a quality ride that your spine would appreciate!

Mine ate list does....

Does anyone have a source for seat springs (front & rear) for an M38A1? Especially convenient if sourced in Europe. Thx. David, Livorno, Italy
