M-38A1 FACTOIDS

Postby Ben Dover » Sun Apr 15, 2012 3:26 pm

M-38A1 left the factory with 5 Ea., GOODYEAR 7.00 X 16 NDCC tires. Originally they were Rayon Cord, the tires installed on late M-38A1 were Nylon Cord as were the Goodyear NDCC Tires used as replacements from the 60's on.

The M-38A1 is much better riding than it's predecessors, the MB and M-38. has faster acceleration and is less fatiguing to operate.

A well tuned M-38A1 will start the instant the starter pedal is depressed, it does so in a fraction of a revolution.

You're making me want one, which is dangerous! Although the MB/GPW is the boss.

Yesterday, my first M-38A1 ride was in the early 50's, a brand new Maine National Guard M-38A1 that had been just delivered to the local Armory.

Took my M38A1 for a ride in the woods Sunday, and I must say I'm very impressed with the 4x4 capability of the A1! Love my jeep!!

PEOPLE PUSHERS

Postby Ben Dover » Sun Sep 16, 2012 8:28 pm

In the late 60's Army National Guard Units of some States modified M-38A1 Jeeps into "PEOPLE PUSHERS" by installing a section of Chain Link Fence approx 5' X 6' on the front bumpers for use in crowd control. It was a good idea until it was tried during a riot training session and some rowdy guardsmen acting as the "bad guys" found that they could shake the hell out of the Jeeps with two or three jumping up on the chain link fence.
