Korean War Jeeps
Here are a couple of pics of Jeeps in the Korean War. The first is of an MB, I like the markings on it.
This second image is from '51, when cease-fire negotiations first started. Notice the last one especially, someone cut off the front of a jeep and turned it into a trailer, and perhaps a VIP seating transport. Seems to have a step or something on the very end of it. These are very cleaned and shined up for transporting the VIPs.

The front fender of the first jeep in the second photo is interesting, to say the least. Anyone seen that before?

Re: Korean War Jeeps
Does anybody know what the extended windshield modification on the last jeep was for. I have seen this several times in Korean War photos.

Wondered that, too. Maybe for some kind of top? I was looking again, that first vehicle must not be a Jeep. Too long...

Well, it is jeep, but it looks as if the tub is extended, and the lower side panels modified.Rescuemo wrote:Wondered that, too. Maybe for some kind of top? I was looking again, that first vehicle must not be a Jeep. Too long...

You're right, I can see the cutouts for the frontier tools on the side of body. Looks like there's something mounted on the front of the jeep but can't make out what it is. Also seems to have some kind of flaring on the rear fenderwells. And of course, the spare is on the driver's side, never seen that before.

Hi 918,
Mate the top of the windshield is extended for more head room.
As for the first jeep, the front fenders have had the same treatment that Gen Pattons jeeps got. Trying to stop the mud from coming back in your face. The back looks like its got one of those metal frame thingys, to carry more stuff in.
Cheers Gary

It's a big shot's vehicle for sure in the lead. Looks like a spare tire is on the right side too. I think that is a grab bar for standing up in parades in front of windshield.

Re: Korean War Jeeps
I've seen more short hoodnumbers from Korean war like on the first photo. Are they early jeeps or some kind of special hoodnumbers? Any idea?

Yes the Doge AKA, big jeep!
The 'trailer " jeep I believe it is just out of the pic, is a regular jeep.

Re: Korean War Jeeps
Tibor, I have a picture in a book with a jeep in Korea 1951 and it has a hood number 20582413. I don't know a thing about hood numbers but am just passing it on.
