That was a great history lesson...thanks for sharing! Like the others, I would love to see more pictures and some pics of the remains of the gun pits and such in your north forty!

Fantastic, thanks.
I like the tread on this slattie's tyres.
Also note the jerry can strapped on

Re: Carolina Maneuvers 1941 and 1942
Army PM at its' best, the trip was less than 600 miles at speeds most likely not exceeding 40MPH. The original grease most likely would have lasted many thousands of miles. Good PM leaves nothing to the imagination and eliminates the guesswork. This type maintenance will allow this weapon to be ready when needed.

Hi Reg,
I believe you will find that the vehicle is a Bantam BRC 40. Which is still a slattie but not a MB one which most persons think of when the word slattie comes up.I like the tread on this slattie's tyres.

Hi, Tom. I was just thinking exactly the same as I scrolled down. Thanks for pointing out as I hadn't got it right!Tom wrote:Hi Reg,

Interesting to see that, prior to the fitting of the Jerrycan holder as standard, it was identified as a good use for that space (other than advertising)

It looks to be an unpainted galvanized can on the back of the jeep.

Re: Carolina Maneuvers 1941 and 1942
Hi My name is Luke. My father and I recently finished the restoration of a 1941 Dodge wc12 over a time period of 9 years. While restoring the truck we were able to strip 7 layers of paint off the doors and other surfaces until we were able to find all original markings. Mission accomplished! We found the original w number and the mother load the markings on the door were that of the 44th engineers. My wife the good sport she is went with me to DC and we researched this unit and found they only existed for six months during the Carolina maneuvers before being broken up and sent in every direction with no way to track the truck. The unit is actually most known for constructing the pontoon bridge across the pee dee river the same one with the picture of the tank. So I have since that point been searching and digging and pleading for anyone with pictures or info on the carolina maneuvers with luck maybe there is a picture of our truck out there. Thanks for your time and hope you are able to help!!!

Roy, the manouvers were 1941?? So that fits in nicely with an early, galvanized, two tab can!?!?

Post your W# When I used to own a VC Dodge I collected a whole lot of photos and books on that era. In the process of moving so the books are packed but I will look on my photo hosting site and see what I have.

Re: Carolina Maneuvers 1941 and 1942
Very interesting, I have been doing some research on the maneuvers and have come to the understanding that some action happened around if not in the town i live in (Norwood Nc) just in the fork of the peedee river and the rocky river. dose anyone have any photos of this area or documentation of action happening in the area the two maps i have seen show some large amounts of fighting happening in the area and large amounts of occupation probably due to the railroads and advantage point of the two rivers being there. i own some large amounts of land that has an oth road bed on it and some water piping and a large concrete foundation that i belive to be a water treatment thing that looks the time period.

Re: Carolina Maneuvers 1941 and 1942
I believe I have one of those US Army "souvenir" "Carolina Maneuvers" posters released during the time.
I can't remember if there is a date or any other descriptors, just that the artists/producers tried to get every type of equipment, aircraft and vehicle on the poster! It's rolled up somewhere around here, if I find it I'll try to post it on the Forum.
