M38 water pump - correct bolt size and washer

Post by Carioca » Thu Dec 07, 2017 1:08 pm

Anyone knows the correct size for M38's bolt used to hold the water pump ? have all bolts the same length ? and the correct washer is external tooth lock or split lock ?
I sent mine to service and now is leaking at the gasket after assembling it back.

Many thanks in advance.

M-38 and M-38A1 Hex Head Bolts with Split Lock washers fixed to the bolts.
1 Each 5/16" NC X 2 1/2"
3 Each 5/16" NC X 7/8"

The MB/GPW, CJ-2Aand 3A used the same length Bolts, with 5/16" Split Lock Washers not fixed to the bolts.
CJ-5 used 3 Each bolts 1" long and One Each 2-1/2 Long. The CJ-5 Bolts had Split Washers made to them just like the M-38 and M-38a1.
It will be easier to go to your hardware store and buy the bolts. 1" will fit and do no harm.
Put a little Permatex #2 or #3 on the bolt threads.
