Unknown item found under coil in M38 Dist.

Post by Austringer » Fri Jul 21, 2017 9:49 pm

Found this under the coil in a M38 distributor. It was hooked into the + / - terminals of the coil. Can't find it in any manuals. It looks legit, what it is it and what does it do?

Jason,
it's a ballast resistor. It was used on shorter 24v coils manufactured for a brief period in 1968. My M151A2 came with one fitted. They are a rare find. I have a photo of it somewhere.... yours aren't showing.

I'll see if I can fix the picture issue, my V100 manual and the M75 Industrial Engine Manual (Chrysler 361 used in the M113, V100 and a few others show the ballast resistor as well.
