24 Volt Distributor Screws

Post by dpcd67 » Thu Jun 01, 2017 9:29 am

Where can I get new screws for a sealed distributor? I mean the ones that hold the top on the AC distributors.

They are referred to as Filister Head Screws. When I did my M170 years ago, this was the go to place for hardware https://mrgusa.com/ Grainger and McMaster Carr should also have Filister Head screws.

The 6 slotted filister screws that came on the distributor are 10-32 x 11/16. The closest I have been able to get is 10-32x5/8. Purchased them on eBay.

I have a good supply of fillister head screws. What I want is the original type with the integral swaged on lock washer, which ain't easy to find.
Brownells sells whole kits of them for gunsmithing use. But they don't have the lock washers on them. I have just put on loose washers on them before but I thought I would try and find real ones. Guess they are not available.

I order by Part Number using authorized PrestoLite Dealers when I need to stock up, sometimes there is a minimum. They have the washers attached to them. I may have 6 good used in my spare electrical parts box behind me.

I did not find any original type of Fillister head screw on their web site; if you have a part number, I would appreciate it. I don't think they are made any more.

An authorized Prestolite Dealer can supply them. Use the AutoLite number from your SNL.

We have two distributors here in our town, but they are not PrestoLite; they are Leece Neville which must be part of Prestolite now. It does seem that some guys here do not know what the correct crews were for a 24 volt Autolite Distributor; they were not just fillister head screws.
Part number is AL-X3029. I will call them.

Not many go the distance for authentic screws. It can be done, but the customer should consult the SNL's as it makes the job easier as screws for the Prestolite/Autolite distributor are not a common request for most.

Thanks for the suggestion, but McMaster Carr does not have the correct screws. The correct ones are in the SNL as listed by Joel above.
Yes I could just put in the wrong ones, and add lock washers; I have done it before on M37s. BUT, I know the difference and I want the correct ones.

That would be wonderful; I only have 4 and they are quite burred up and two are missing the lock washer.
