No voltage in my 24 volt m38

Post by Whitehat2 » Sun May 28, 2017 6:30 am

I slow charged both batteries but after reinstalling them it's as if the jeep has no batteries. No lights, no amp meter reading.
Most bizarre. Anu ideas?

Get out your wiring diagram and volt meter and trace the current from the batteries along its path; The ignition switch is the first place, and to the starter. If nothing is getting power, then it is your ignition switch. Nothing but a systematic approach will do; don't start changing things, which BTW, what did you change before you had no power? That is usually the problem.

Hi
There are 5 options were is not getting power
1) Ignition switch could have died
2) amp gauge could have died or burnt fuse plate inside amp gauge case.
3) blown fuses if there are fuse mounted on the vehicle
4) wire burned or cut
5) or batteries connections is not tiet enough to could be loose

Cheers Peter

The ignition switch has no bearing on the lights not functioning. Start here: Check under hood battery + to ground 12 volts. Cowl battery - to ground 12 volts. Cowl battery + to ground 24 volts. Starter terminal to ground 24 volts. Late model M-38's have no fuses, so lights should function. If starter operates and engine does not start, now check ignition switch. The amp meter is highly damped and will show little movement.

Don't I feel stupid.
My M-38 is an 8 year old frame off restoration getting ready for it's annual Memorial Day Parade appearance. Long story short is that BOTH batteries were shot. Replaced them both, added some gas to the tank and the Go-Devil whine happened with a vengeance! She was yet again the star of the Maumee Ohio parade.

By the way, It's been a long time since posting. I moved. changed my e-mail address and forgot my log in so I had to start over as a civilian.
