What does the wire number 85 on the ignition switch go to?

Ignition Switch to Open Connector is what the TM says. It is not used on M38s, that I know of. Maybe on other M series vehicles it has something to connect to.
I looked in my M37 Tm; it has no purpose there either.

Remember that the military standardized parts and wiring and items might
be used on several vehicles. The power switch and wire 85 are one example.

On some M vehicles wire 85 is used for the low air pressure sensor light.

There is no such thing on the M38 so the wire is terminated on a Douglas connector
with a sleeve with no terminals so it does not short to ground.

Take care,
Brian

Wire 85 on the M38 was used to switch power for the Arctic Gas fired personnel heater that mounts on the outside of the dash.

And it was also used for the Hot Water Personnel Heater on the M-38.
