Prestolite Voltage Regulator

Post by dpcd67 » Tue Apr 25, 2017 2:28 pm

My M38 has a Prestolite voltage regulator; 24 volt, 25 amp. Question is, is it a legitimate replacement, or completely bogus?
It has had the terminal plug wires cut out, so I will need those replaced. PO had it hot wired directly into the internal wiring.

Only autolite made regulators for the M38.There were 30 different type 4 water tight regulators prior to the M151.Only the Autolite had the correct connectors for the M38 and M38A1.There were several with the 3 pin plug from the generator but only a single pin to the wiring harness that could be hard wired if the connector was removed.

Maybe that is why it was hot wired directly into the generator instead of using the harness.
It does have the same plug patterns as the automate.
So now I need to buy a regulator is what I am hearing.
