M38 top ID?

Post by Destructo6 » Wed Mar 08, 2017 6:30 am

Hello,

Along with my GPW, I received this top. Having a rear window plastic, discolored as it is, it's not for my MV, so is it for a M38? I see many images of M38 tops with side curtains, but this does not have such an accommodation.

So, what MV does this go with?

As seen in the images, there are 2 holes along where the windshield might contact it. Looks like it was chewed by rats or something.

I don't really need it, but I don't want to throw it away, either.

Hard to tell from your pics. If it were M-38 there would be flaps with turn button holes for the bow to the windshield, and similar flaps with turnbuttons at the location for the side curtains. Your top appears to be a made over whit is sold as a M-38 "Summer Top" offered as an economical substitute for M-38/M-38A1 owners who do not wish to install doors or side curtains.

I was wondering about why the mix of turn fasteners for the top bow flaps, but round grommets at the windshield.

So, is this some sort of oddball aftermarket hybrid?

It appears that a repro M-38 "Summer Top" has been adapted across the front to fit MB/GPW. The M-38 and M-38A1 used Turn Buttons to secure their top to the front bow.
