Windshield glass
I just priced what it would be to cut a glass for my M38 hardtop windshield. WOW! They want $300! JUST for the glass! I was wondering two things: 1) Could I use a piece of Lexan to replace that glass, 2) how THICK it'd need to be, and 3) would it scratch easily? I just can't fathom a single piece of glass only that size would cost so much!

Re: Windshield glass
That price seems high. What kind of glass place are you asking?
Are they quoting safety glass or some other?

Its a local glass shop that does cars. I was figuring 'bout $200 for a single piece of safety glass. I wouldn't want anything else. You never know...........? that's why I was thinking about Lexan.Jeeps4Brains wrote:That price seems high. What kind of glass place are you asking?

Re: Windshield glass
I agree, that does seem high. I had a local glass company cut me safety glass for my M38A1 about a year ago and it was less than $100 (maybe even around $50 but I can't find the receipt). The two pieces of the M38A1 should be very comparable to the one piece M38. I would shop around before considering using Lexan.

I had 2 pieces cut for First gen M38/cj3a, and it was less than $100 each in automotive safety glass.

Re: Windshield glass
It will be illegal for you to use Lexan, in this state at least. Has to be automotive safety glass. And no, it should not cost 300.

You could call and ask for a quote with your windshield measurements and compare prices.

Thanks, guys, for all the input. I found a local shop that will put in a safety glass windshield for 50 bucks! That other fella was way out of line! Guess he was lookin' for suckers! PT Barnum said " there's a sucker born every minute". I'll tell that guy he ain't lookin' at one!
